Derwent Tower, nicknamed the Dunston Rocket, was designed by the Architect Owen Luder (who also designed the Trinity Square "Get Carter" Car Park) and was built from 1968 to completion in 1971. As the name suggests, it is based in Dunston in Gateshead. The rocket was built for housing but since 2007, has stood unoccupied due to its deteriorating condition and health and safety concerns.
I found this place quite remarkable. Deemed as ugly by most (understandably), it really is an impressive structure. It is though, unfortunately, quite a wreck; the concrete and bricks haven't aged well at all and it is covered in pigeon droppings and litter. Despite this, I thoroughly enjoyed taking the photographs and felt it was quite serene considering its Brutalist nature.
I hope you enjoy. I did.
